I’ve been switching between personal design projects varying in scope and theme a lot more lately; it helps me to walk away from something for a break, and then revisit it a few weeks later with fresh eyes. This is quite different from how I usually worked before, and it fully hit me that this is the biggest luxury of post-retirement designing: there’s no deadline. Of course I’m still somewhat preconditioned to think I need to continuously grind on something until it’s done, so I’m doing a bit of unlearning for this new cadence.
One of my more recent creative projects involved learning the ropes of Moho to do 2D character animation: drawing, rigging and animating. I had bookmarked their free course almost a year ago, and finally got around to taking it last month. Based on what I learned, I was able to illustrate a character broken down into riggable components, and successfully import it from Illustrator to Moho. Next step is rigging; I plan to take another course to plumb the depts of Moho rigging (specifically vector rigging) in greater detail. For me, this habit of “double training” – doing different tutotials based on the same subject matter – has been super helpful for reinforcing concepts.
