Another piece just for fun: for some reason I suddenly recalled the old school Black Cat fireworks brand design, and thought it might be fun to reimagine it in a bit more of a vintage cartoon style. I think the memory might have been sparked by some Halloween art I saw a few weeks ago, and somehow it got stuck in my head. I have since learned from ther website that Black Cat is the oldest US fireworks brand and have been been in business for more than 70 years.
I already like Black Cat’s very recognizable existing logo, but I wanted to try incorporating a 1930s style cat illustration into their design to see if it would hold up; I’ve always admired the subversive nature of the pre-Hays code cartoons made before 1934, when animation was less tailored for children and more outrageous and risqué, so I tried to capture a bit of that sinister essence in the cat’s depiction.
I still have a handful of other pieces I’m planning to draw to finish up 2025, including some vector illustrations and a few more tin robot designs. But it was fun to take a short break from my planned pieces to work up something simple and spontaneous. Boom!
TBF the OG Black Cat logo is pretty cool as is : )
