Santa Fe certainly lived up to our lofty expectations as a mecca for fine arts and Southwestern charm. It struck me during our visit is that it’s to art what Nashville is to music, with creativity permeating every corner of the city. Since there weren’t any direct flights from Seattle, we flew into Albuquerque and made the quick one hour drive north via Interstate 25. The main areas we explored were Canyon Road, dotted with nearly a hundred galleries along its half mile stretch, alongside the Railyard District and the historic Santa Fe Plaza for a taste of both the new and old dimensions the city has to offer. On our last day there, we got happily lost exploring the flagship Meow Wolf House of Eternal Return, an immersive and interactive space full of mind-bending exhibits in every nook and cranny.
I estimate we visited between 40-50 galleries out of the approximately 300(!) scattered throughout the city. I guess that means we’ll have to go back. Here are some photos representing a small sampling of the art, artifacts and sites we witnessed throughout our enjoyable three-day visit. Gracias, Santa Fe, we look forward to seeing you again.
